I have been pondering about mathematics for quite sometime. It is all because of this single question which came to my mind.
Any Guess!
"What is math?" Nope that was not what i thought.
"Why do we do math?" No, not at all
The question was about how did we end up with the present mathematics especially the Decimal Number System and the number Zero.
Mathematics was deviced to describe the Nature, but still it lags so much to describe the Nature of universe.
Every now and then the mathematical tools has been versioned to the next level with the advent of new discoveries and we keep discovering by observation. And we theorotise so much to move ahead.
There has been many concerns that has been raised in past, present and will be getting raised in the future about the methodology and the mathematics.
Brushing through various histories of mathematics. I still get a doubt why we make use of Zero and -ve numbers. As it become difficult especially with operations such as square root of -1, i.e., Imaginaries, which really hinders our motions to describe something what we see in our real life, sometimes.
why do we make use of zero? and why we move ahead to make use of negative numbers, It is accepted that they simplfies lot in manipulations. Now think about this, If we take positive as "existance" zero as "non existance", then we really have problems with negatives. what are these negative now? is what comes to my mind.
It seems obvious that Binary Number system could come as helping one here as it describe almost everything through only its 2 state.
But putting one more question, how one can define "existance" and "non existance"? blanks out my mind.
Now, it seems that i have reached some metaphysical world of thoughts. Asking myself
"what am i? and what rest of me?
seems to go on, to make my life"
Coming back to reality, We do realize this and changes are done hand in hand with the advent changes.
Still I feel that there could be some other way of describing Nature.
Will there be a change in the core of mathematics on zero and negatives? Whether we will work on these axioms daring the change right from its root?
